My Counseling Approach
in Action
1.
My job is to:
·
Provide you
a safe place to work on your life with empathy and
validation as the main focus along with appropriate
challenge when needed.
·
Learn your
language and the words and metaphors you use to describe
your life and use your words as our central language of your
therapy.
·
Learn your
theory and style of solving problems and use your style as a
map to help you solve your current problem.
·
Learn and
utilize your unique strengths, resourcefulness, and
creativity.
2.
Your job is
to:
·
Describe your
problem.
·
Tell me how
you want to be different from the problem.
·
Tell me what
you want from counseling and when counseling is working and
not working.
3.
Sessions:
·
Are
collaborative, we work together. I give you feedback as well
as asking you questions to help you process and figure
things out.
Solutions sometimes are improvisations that come out of our
dialogue.
·
Usually are
a blend of acknowledging and caring for vulnerability as
well as acknowledging and supporting your creativity and
strengths.
·
Are 45
minutes long followed by 5 minutes of sitting back and
reflecting on how things are going.
Your feed-back will help us stay on track and we can
make any corrections needed.
I am a Solution-Focused Therapist. I also employ Family of
Origin therapy, Pastoral Counseling and Strategic Family
Therapy. |
