My
Counseling Approach in a Nutshell
1.
Problems
usually have several things in common:
·
A sense of
chaos
·
Alienation
in relationships
·
A feeling of
hopelessness
2.
Goals
usually have several things in common:
·
A sense of
order
·
Connection
in relationships
·
A feeling of
hope
3.
Solutions
usually have several things in common:
·
We get back
to our old or true self (the part of us that is most
compassionate, centered, creative, generous, playful and
wise).
·
We find our
way back home to people (where we can be strong and weak,
happy and sad, protecting and protected, holding and held).
·
We find an
authentic spirituality to acknowledge the sacred in life
(with or without formal religion).
This is
the basic ‘map’ I use in my work and the problem you are
wanting to solve will use only the parts of the map
necessary to help you find your solutions.
Problems
and goals come and go, back and forth in life. What is most
important is to cultivate the three relationships described
as solutions. They are the bridges that connect us to what
is most essential and they are the containers that hold us
as we lose and find ourselves over and over throughout our
lives.
